Walnut or beech?
What is the difference between the walnut and beech versions?
Only the timber. Walnut is dark chocolate-brown with a strong open grain and deepens further with light; beech is pale honey with a fine, almost uniform grain. Walnut suits a darker bedroom and reads more formal; beech suits pale interiors and shows engraving with more contrast.
Does the window make it less protective?
The window keeps dust out exactly as a solid lid would — the trade is light, not protection. Jewellery kept in direct sunlight will fade or tarnish faster behind any lid, so keep it off a sunny windowsill whichever style you choose.
Can the wood around the window be engraved?
Yes. The frame around the window is solid timber and takes a name, initials or a short date. Because the window occupies the centre, keep wording short — initials and a date read better here than a full sentence.
